Buying the Saab Gripen means investing Billions of Canadian dollars in Embraer – Bombardier’s primary competitor in the civilian aircraft market. At the precise moment we’ve committed to building a strong sovereign high-tech and defense industrial base, we’d be funding our competitor’s research and development. We’d be shooting ourselves in the foot—funding Brazil’s aerospace ambitions while dismantling our own industrial base.
At a time when allies are doubling down on sovereign capability, Canada would be volunteering to undermine its own.

F-35 Economic Benefit – It’s Just Math.

F-35 Economic Benefit – It’s Just Math.

CBC’s recent story on the F-35 revealed what many Canadians never knew: this aircraft is built across our country, from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to Delta, British Columbia. 36 Canadian suppliers contribute to every jet. In fact, every single F-35 contains more than $3 million in Canadian parts. How could an orphan fleet of Gripen E’s possibly replace the $$$ Billions in economic impact and sustained high-tech employment the F-35 has and will generate? This is a franchise program producing over 3,000 jets globally. No alternative comes close.

Canada’s Fighter Jet Dilemma: Snatching Mediocrity from the Jaws of Greatness

Every Canadian wants our country to be taken seriously on the world stage. Yet decades of declining military investment have left the Canadian Armed Forces at their smallest, oldest, and least capable point in history. The newest incarnation of a Liberal government promised defence reform: a commitment to spend 2% of GDP on defence, establish a new procurement agency, and reduce dependence on the United States. These were promises of sovereignty and self-reliance.
Instead, we look like Fools and Cowards.

Canadian Defence Procurement – Can We Really Change It?

I applaud the establishment of the Defence Investment Agency under Secretary of State Stephen Fuhr. As an experienced MP and former CF-18 fighter pilot, Fuhr may be uniquely positioned to reform Canada’s bloated, stagnant defence procurement system—one that has failed for decades to deliver the agility and adaptability our changing world demands. I look forward to Stephen Fuhr’s leadership—to end the Gripen distraction, commit to the full 88 F-35 aircraft plan, and transform the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Armed Forces.
